Audience Development Initiative-Phase 2

The New York Mills Arts Retreat and Regional Cultural Center is an innovative non-profit organization dedicated to expanding the cultural and creative opportunities of rural Americans. During the first phase of our Audience Development Initiative, which began the summer of 2009, a CURA student helped the organization evolve towards electronic communications. The second phase of this project expands New York Mills social networking to include more blogging to create interactive youth conversations and to develop cost-effective ways to attract youth to arts events and festivals. Chad Siebert, an undergraduate student on the Morris campus, developed an easy access tool for visual, performance, and literary opportunities with network-linking capabilities. The results are being used to improve communications with young people, provide them with arts curriculum that matters to them, and identify the tools to keep them informed of what, when, and where programs will be offered.
