Connecting Communities

The Victory Neighborhood Association (ViNA) is a nonprofit 501(c)3 corporation that is recognized by the City of Minneapolis as the official representative and liaison for residents of the Victory Neighborhood. Of the 44% Asian population at Patrick Henry High School (PHHS), 43% are Hmong. The largest student organization at PHHS is the Asian Cultural Club (ACC), which represents this contingency with a mission to support students both academically and socially, while promoting cultural awareness and education about Asian culture. This partnership is about educating and connecting. "May Sho,” is a community-based cultural event intended to educate non-Asian residents of the Victory neighborhood about their Asian (Hmong) neighbors and to connect the Hmong residents to their block leadership, thus increasing involvement in the neighborhood organization. The project will result in greater unity in Victory block clubs with Hmong families engaging in the process and better connecting to neighbors, reducing isolation and barriers of mistrust.
