Youth Farm and Market

WSCO is a community- based organization serving the West Side neighborhood of St. Paul, MN and acts as the officially recognized district council for District 3. REDA serves the same area as a business development association through commercial development, business outreach and marketing to build a vibrant business community. The Canto Al Pueblo project was designed to connect youth and other residents to the community’s history, art, and culture, with a focus on exploring the Canto Al Pueblo (Song of the People) movement in the United States and its role in the creation of the Canto mural on the West Side. Project activities included a neighborhood tour, storytelling and digital photography project with Humboldt High School students, community glass mosaic workshop, an arts-based curriculum with Youth Farm and Market Project (YFMP) participants, the actual mosaic installation, and a community celebration to culminate the project. Short term impacts include the engagement of youth and implementation of the workshop series. A long-term impact was the installation of the mosaic, which will commemorate youth experience during the summer series for 50 years or more. Strengthening relationships between WSCO, REDA, and YFMP will result in future collaborations.
