Land Use and Population

CURA supports a broad range of research related to land use and population. Recent projects have included analysis of population changes based on 2010 U.S. Census data, transit-oriented development along major metro area transit corridors, development of parks and protection of open space in growing suburban and exurban communities, farmland preservation strategies in rural and exurban Minnesota, lakeshore development policies, new approaches to modeling urban sprawl using GIS technologies, the fiscal impacts of development on local governments, approaches to creating higher density development, and collaborative decision support systems for creating land use policies.
